Farmers and graziers in the Lightening Ridge/Walgett region are facing their third year without a harvest due to drought. Families are doing it tough having to sell stock and let workers go in order to survive. Aussie Helpers, a rural based volunteered-operated charity, is providing a rescue mission to keep farmers on their properties and remaining stock fed. According to the charity’s founder, Brian Egan, they’ve provided feed for farm stock and pets to hundreds of families. In addition every property visited receives an emergency food hamper supplied by Foodbank.
