Thanks to the many generous supporters like you who supported Foodbank’s School Breakfast Appeal! Your generosity will enable Foodbank to provide even more School Breakfast Clubs so that disadvantaged kids like Abbas and Anastacia don’t have to go to school hungry.
Foodbank recently featured on the first instalment of ABC’s three-part documentary series War on Waste, hosted by Craig Reucassel, who paid a visit to Foodbank NSW & ACT’s Glendenning distribution centre.
The series looked at the growing food wastage issue in Australia, and how Foodbank is combating this by providing nutritious meals to hungry Aussies with recycled, quality food. By rescuing this food that would have otherwise gone to landfill, Foodbank plays a leading role in alleviating Australia’s waste situation, saving 38 million kilograms of food in 2016 alone.
Did you know that 38 million kilograms of food equates to over 60 million kilograms of CO2 emissions; 2.2 million kilolitres of water; and 36,000 cubic metres of landfill (Sydney football stadium playing field stacked 40 metres high)?
With food insecurity in Australia reaching a crisis point, and 1 in 6 people experiencing food insecurity in the past 12 months, the 63 million meals Foodbank provides are much better suited in the mouths of hungry Aussies instead of landfill.
Thanks for your partnership in this important work – especially during the one of the coldest parts of the year – and for your commitment to helping Australian families in need.
