As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, thousands of women across our country and their families will need help because they cannot afford food.
Hunger in Australia is real and it doesn’t just affect the homeless. It can affect anyone who falls on hard times. Did you know that every year 2 million Aussies need food relief and 35% of them are children?
As many as 1 in 5 Mums skip meals every day to make sure their children have enough food.
But it’s not just hunger that Mums struggle with, many cannot afford basic toiletries and sanitary products either. Women deserve the dignity of having enough to eat, and of being able to care for themselves and their families.
Just this week we heard this heartbreaking story from a Mum…
“I recently lost my job and have now found another one but it is half the pay. As a single Mum I was barely keeping my finances afloat with my previous salary but now my life has completely changed. It’s hard to admit it but I can no longer afford to feed myself or my kids.”
Through food received at Foodbank this single Mum has been able put food back on her family’s plate but there are many other Mums out there struggling.
We’re asking you to remember the Mums who struggle this this Mother’s Day and give a gift to Foodbank to help Mums facing crisis.
