Jamie’s Story

March 29, 2011

Jamie is 6 and has lived with his aunt and uncle since his parents were killed in a car accident. His aunt and uncle barely have enough to support their own two children, but couldn’t bear to see Jamie go into foster care.

When Jamie’s uncle was made redundant two months later the family couldn’t afford to buy enough food. Jamie soon sensed the problem, feigned not being hungry in the mornings, and regularly went to school without breakfast. He quickly became disinterested in learning and disruptive in the classroom. Jamie’s teacher guessed the problem and enrolled him in the school’s Foodbank breakfast program.

Jamie now starts the day with cereal, toast, fruit and a wide smile. His behaviour, attention span and school results have all improved, and he is healthier and happier.
